Note: the General Assembly Hall (United Nations Headquarters, New York City) will be closed for final renovations in Summer 2014; we will therefore evaluate all applications and send official letters of acceptance and to support delegates’ visa applications, etc. on a first come, first served basis.   Early registration is encouraged: in Summer 2013, there were 1300 strong applications; the Summer 2014 YA@UN will only accommodate 550 delegates, due to final renovations at UNHQ.

Overview: This Summer, the Youth Assembly at the UN will focus on wrapping up the Millennium Development Goals and setting the scene for the role of youth leadership in the post-2015 Agenda. The Permanent Mission of Romania and H.E. Ambassador Simona Miculescu are the Lead Endorsers of the 2014 Youth Assembly at the U.N.

Concept Note: Having reached 1.8 billion, youth now comprise almost 25% of the world population and the largest generation of youth that the world has ever known – facing unique challenges and opportunities.  As we recognize youth-led development in support of MDG success and prepare for the post-2015 agenda, one question is clear: for whom would the upcoming agenda be, if not for youth?

The YA@UN experience will include a pre-conference, academic program at Fairleigh Dickinson University. FDU will provide a certificate of completion for each delegate.  Early arriving delegates would be able to collaborate with nearly 200, international YA delegates on faculty-developed, business plan reviews from existing, successful social ventures (as well as new ones proposed as part of the Resolution Project’s Social Venture competition, held during the YA@UN). A visit and program at a major corporate headquarters is also a part of the university program, prior to YA@UN.

At the Summer Youth Assembly, young attendees, ages 16 – 24, have the ability diversify their skill-sets and gain valuable insights, essential for their future career paths and global development.  The Secretary General’s first-ever Envoy for Youth, Ahmad Alhendawi, began his relationship with the UN in New York at the YA@UN and is expected to address this summer’s YA@UN. Special Envoy Alhendawi’s remarks will include a report after the UN World Youth Conference in Sri Lanka as well as his plans to promote the youth agenda at the UN in the future.  Other Ambassadors to the UN, UN officials, corporate leaders, and most important, global leaders will join Mr. Alhendawi during the three days and nights of YA@UN events.
