Dr. Mary E. Norton is Associate Dean and Professor of Global Academic Initiatives at Felician College –The Franciscan College of New Jersey. Academic degrees include an M.A., M.Ed., and Doctor of Education from Columbia University, New York, and a post doctoral Certificate in Bioethics and the Medical Humanities, College of Physicians and Surgeons Columbia University, New York. She is the recipient of several Fulbright Scholar Awards and USAID grants. Other experiences include development of baccalaureate and graduate nursing programs in Iran, Pakistan and Jordan; teaching in Qatar, Bahrain, Finland and China. Consultations include development of the PhD Program – University of Jordan and dissertation advisor – Amman, Jordan. Awards include Felician College President’s Medallion for her work in the developing world, member of Columbia University-Nursing Hall of Fame, and Sigma Theta Tau-International Honor Society in Nursing – Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Norton serves as First Vice President of the Executive Committee and served as Chair of the 63rd Annual United Nations DPI Annual Conference 2010 “Advance Global Health: Achieve the MDGs – Melbourne, Australia.
The Global NGO Executive Committee (GNEC) was founded in 1962 to promote a closer working relationship between the United Nations and the non-governmental organizations (NGOs) affiliated with it. GNEC acts as a liaison between the NGO community and the UN's Department of Global Communications (UNDGC). GNEC provides strategic guidance to help NGOs become more effective partners of the UN.
