NGO/DPI COMMUNICATIONS WORKSHOP: NGOs NAVIGATING THE UN * 12 April 2012
The 12 April Communications Workshop, as in previous workshops, included morning and afternoon sessions, the latter devoted to practical steps that a NGO might take in order to reach a desired goal. The topic of “navigating” the UN proved to be a popular subject with the audience. The morning speakers, all three heavily involved with the UN and the NGO community, drew attention to the extraordinary resources available to NGOs at UN headquarters. NGOs were encouraged to visit Permanent Missions to the United Nations and bring their concerns to the diplomatic community and also to coordinate their work at UN Headquarters. This was followed by an interactive afternoon Workshop, which focused on building inter-generational dialogue through the use of social media while at the same time expanding the connections and contacts between NGOs.
