The NGOI/DPI Executive Committee was founded in 1962 to establish a working link between the United Nations and the growing number of NGOs. It consists of 18 elected members from NGOs (1500+) associated with the United Nations Department of Public Information (DPI). They are elected for a two-year term and can be re-elected for a second two-year term. The Executive Committee meets throughout the year at United Nations Headquarters in New York. It has appointed Regional NGO Coordinators whose role is to encourage and promote worldwide support for the work of the United Nations.
In partnership with DPI, the Executive Committee organizes an annual UN DPI/NGO Conference, at UN Headquarters or abroad, which increases public understanding of the United Nations’ critical work on such issues as human rights, economic and social development, the environment, the rule of law and peace-building. This event is an important opportunity for NGOs to network and promote the efforts of their organizations.
The Executive Committee welcomes the active participation of all DPI-associated NGOs in its UN Headquarters activities and outreach initiatives
