As part of the ongoing Central America Outreach Project, established in 2007 by the Executive Committee to identify and recruit NGOs for association with the Department of Public Information (DPI), the Committee hosted a breakfast event attended by over forty NGOs and members of the Resident Coordinator’s Office. The goal was to identify and recruit NGOs for association with the DPI at UN Headquarters in New York. Phyllis Lee, a recently retired senior UN official and current Adjunct Professor at Long Island University/Brooklyn, organized the event.
Lester Wilson, chair of the NGO/DPI Outreach Subcommittee, opened the meeting and welcomed the guests. Graduate students from Long Island University’s United Nations Graduate Certificate Program made a power point presentation outlining the association process. Luciana Mermet, Deputy Resident Coordinator addressed the need for inclusion and diversity within the NGO community in Central America and the Caribbean. Guests had ample opportunity to network and share information.
