The Global NGO Executive Committee (GNEC) serving Board is elected by members of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) affiliated with the United Nations Department of Global Communications (“UNDGC”). The mandate of the GNEC Board emanates from Article 71 of the Charter of the United Nations, United Nations General Assembly resolution 13(1), Annex 1 of 13 February 1946, and ECOSOC resolutions 1296 (XLIV) of 23 May 1968, 1297 (XLIV) of 27 May 1968 and 1996/31 of 25 July 1996.
The Bylaws, along with the Policies and Procedures of the GNEC Board represent the process by which the Executive Committee carries out its obligations to NGOs that are affiliated with UNDGC.

The Global NGO Executive Committee (GNEC) was founded in 1962 to promote a closer working relationship between the United Nations and the non-governmental organizations (NGOs) affiliated with it. GNEC acts as a liaison between the NGO community and the UN's Department of Global Communications (UNDGC). GNEC provides strategic guidance to help NGOs become more effective partners of the UN.
